NYC & Company — which is the City’s official marketing,
tourism and partnership organization — teamed-up with local start-up
CityMaps to launch a free, co-branded iPhone application. Available as a
free download, NYC Map is touted as a comprehensive digital tool that
allows users to navigate New York City using easy-to-recognize names and
visual POIs (logos) and to customize their experience with filtered
content from nearly 90,000 hotels, restaurants, bars, stores and
attractions. Moreover, the application also features daily deals from
sites like Groupon, Living Social, Restaurants.com and nycgo.com; while
also enabling users to book restaurants via OpenTable, check movie
theater listings and purchase tickets via Fandango, get MTA transit
information, parking locations and rates.
On the other side of the equation, NYC Map also acts as a retail
platform for local companies, helping them increase consumer awareness
and “amplify their messaging in a streamlined way.” Sounds like a win-win for all parties, including the New York City
which got another tool to help both tourists and residents get around
the city…
