Hello,
I have a LG3200 cell and verizon service.

Today I have recieved about 6 calls from "restricted", i.e., in my missed
calls list they are listed as "restricted". There is no call back number
listed and any attempt to hit send and call back on these missed calls to
find out what is going on delivers a message from the phone of: invalid
number.

Does anybody have any idea what is going on here? I have none and am
wondering if this is some type of worm attack or hack attempt or something.

I have no clue what this is all about.

I believe LG phones display "private" numbers (in other words, a blocked ID)
as "restricted". At least my 4400 and 6100 both do.

"Restricted" means that the caller's account was set not to identify the caller or phone number.

Thanks. I think someone has been calling my number by mistake. Sort of
annoying that there is no way to call them back and let them know about
it. I have missed answering it while it was ringing every time so far.

It could even be Verizon calling you about your account. Verizon blocks
caller ID when they call you.

Most likely it is a telemarketer. Everytime I've answered "restricted"
calls it has been something like that.

Most likely it is a telemarketer, OR someone who has caller-id blocked. When I
call from my home phone which has auto CLID block, it shows "restricted" on
cellular phones and usually something like "private" on landline caller ID
boxes unless I unblock my number by using the *82 predial code.

Try it yourself. *67 blocks caller ID for your next call, *82 unblocks caller
ID for your next call, and both work from any landline or US cell phone - try
from both.

Landline carriers and, I imagine, most cellular carriers allow you to block
caller ID by default. Cell carriers even let you do it at no additional charge.

As others posted, most likely a telemarketer. By default I don't
answer any of these... if it's someone who knows me and just happens
to be calling from a caller-ID blocked phone they'll leave a message.

Not saying there aren't some out there who don't do this, but haven't
telemarketers been required to send CID info with their calls?

Last Saturday, I got a call from Restricted, but since it was a weekend and
airtime was free, I answered it. It turned out to be some company's (I
can't remember who right now) customer service telling me something
worthwhile, so I was glad I answered it.

I also have a friend who has a device installed in his house that
automatically dials the CID block code every time he picks up a phone.

I disagree with "most". IME, "most" send a single number, usually the
main switchboard number. IME, NONE send the restriced, but many give
the "not available".

I get these most often from individuals who wish to protect their
privacy. I understand that battered women's shelters and that sort of
place often use it as well.

I disagree I had the same caller ristricted call 4x at 2 am at 3am at 8am and @7pm within a 24 hr period???? Darla

I get them all of the time, but I happen to know it is my mother, that's right my mother. She does this to harass us & i, my brother & his wife all get them at about the same times. ALl the caller has to do is dial *67 & the number & the call shows up restricted. I have reported her to Verizon & asked why the heck they don't have the feature to allow us to not accept calls from people who block their number. Land lines have this feature & with Verizon supposing to be the largest wireless network I don't understand why they can't do something about it.

I started getting restricted calls a few years ago and there was never anyone on the line when I answered. I assumed it was some disgruntled ex or something, but they've lasted for literally 4 years. The number of calls have decreased, but I still get them at very odd hours of the day (mostly night). Verizon said I could change my number or file a police report and retain a lawyer. Neither were worth it to me. I just ignore the calls now, but I still think there's something weird going on with Verizon accounts.

I agree. I am with cellular south and I have the same problem. I have contacted them about the issue and they are unaware of any solutions to fix the problem. THis is annoying.

Verizon has an application called do not disturb cost three dollars but I think it is worth it. My restricted calls go right to voicemail. I can also setup specific numbers to block. I have used it for about two months now and am happy with it. You can down load it right to your phone.

You could also checkout Google Voice as it is free. You setup your number online then can use it's features. Block call or screen calls ect.

well, i am in 7th grade, and if you add *67 to the beginning of the number you are dialing, it will show up as Restricted or Private Number when you call someone else. since almost all the kids in my class know this, i get TONS of prank calls. so every time i see "Restricted", i just assume its a prank.

I have been getting restricted calls for the past week, usually in the middle of the night. I have answered several times, and all I hear is a beep- like a fax machine has been dialed. I called Verizon and I can't block this number since it's restricted. My only other option is to change my number, which I definitely don't want to do. Any suggestions? These calls are driving me nut!

i talked to Verizon customer service and they told me any caller can restrict their calls if they put in a code. this is most frequently used by telemarketers so you answer the call without seeing the business name. Scam artists use this technique as well for phising purposes. In other words, they pose as a business and ask for you personal information for what ever reason they have planned to trick you into giving your personal info in order to steal your identity so they can use your name to set up a line of credit and use it themselves without your knowledge. However, most of these calls are from telemarketers. Landline receive restricted calls as well. My parents, simply do not answer. To stop these calls, you simply state, "place me on your do not call list" then it is illegal for them to call you.

Someone called me from restricted and accused me of some filthy sex acts with their daughter. I've never even been with anyone and dunno who it was, it was someone with a raspy voice talking in a Jersey accent. They called back again but this time pretending to be foreign

It means they have a restricted phone number which means caller id is restricted from giving their number. A lot of small businesses have restricted numbers including lawyers.

Find discount cell phones online.

It is possible to unblock restricted numbers and even find out the name of restricted numbers. You can unblock (unmask) every restricted or blocked number that comes your way. There are a few out there to choose from and they all cost money. They work though.

I'm a paranoid bastard, and I got a call on my phone that said 'restricted' i picked up, and said 'hello?' but there was no answer. After a few seconds, the line went dead.

I recieved 5 restricted calls yesterday within 20 minutes of each other and when I answered the first call, I heard noises for about 20 seconds and then I hung up. The last 4 calls, I didn't answer, thinking it would go to my voicemail but didn't. Okay, I then thought it was a telemarketer so I forgot about it. Now fast forward to three in the morning. My phone rang and scared the %#*% out of me. When I finally answered, no one was on the other end. About five minutes later, it rang again and I didn't answer. Now, I don't know any telemarketers who would be calling at that time of day and now I'm getting mad and a little nervous. I went to my phone settings and blocked out all calls except my contacts, but then my daughter told me that if someone important had to call me from another phone, I wouldn't get the call so I switched back to taking all calls again. Now, my only other option is to keep my phone on silent during the night. I don't like doing this because I might miss a very important call, but I have no choice. We do need to be able to block restricted calls on these phones. Will be contacting Verizon today to look into the matter.
